The Success Story of AS Aquaristik & Pet Supplies
Founded in November 1992
Founded in November 1992 by Anton Schuster and Andreas Stöckel as AS Aquaristik OHG, a specialized wholesale company.
In its early years, AS was a purely family-run business, managed by the two owners and their wives. The company focused on aquarium products and accessories. The headquarters were located in Friedberg near Augsburg, from where they supplied stationary aquarium specialty stores in Bavaria.
Expansion and Growth
1994: Expansion into Austria and hiring of new staff.
By 1994, AS had expanded its reach and hired additional staff to meet the growing demand. The facilities in Friedberg could no longer accommodate the rapid growth, and a new location was found in Prittriching, which was moved into in 1995.
Continuous Growth and Warehouse Expansions
2005, 2013, 2017: Construction of additional warehouses.
AS continued to expand, renting additional external storage facilities. In 2005, 2013, and 2017, new warehouses were built, and in 2019, they acquired the neighboring property, including a building and a hall. Today, AS boasts an impressive 10,000 square meters of storage space.
Diversification of Product Range
Expansion into terraristics and the pet supplies sector.
Over the years, AS has significantly expanded its product range, now encompassing not only aquaristics but also terraristics and pet supplies. This product portfolio continues to grow steadily.
Realignment and Name Change
2016: Anton Schuster takes over his partner’s company shares.
In 2016, Anton Schuster took over the company shares of his former partner. AS was restructured and renamed AS Aquaristik & Pet Supplies. Since then, the management has consisted of Anton Schuster and Florian Schmager.
Generational Change in Management
2025: Thomas Schuster succeeds his father.
On December 31, 2024, Anton Schuster stepped down from management. His son, Thomas Schuster, took his place and now leads the company together with Florian Schmager. With this generational transition, AS is focusing on continuity and further growth.
Efficient Supply Chain and Wide Product Offering
Supplying specialty stores and retail chains in Germany and neighboring countries.
In the early years, AS delivered its goods using its own fleet, but today various logistics companies handle this task. AS’s customers include both stationary and online specialty stores in aquaristics, terraristics, and pet supplies, as well as branches of retail chains and purchasing cooperatives throughout Germany and neighboring countries.
